Mission and Vision Statement:
We are a church for this generation. A church that is loving God and His people. A church that is engaged in acts of evangelism and discipleship. A church that is generously giving of it's time, talent, and treasure. A church that is ministering to the entire family with a spirit of excellence.
"Watch your life and your doctrine closely. Continue in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers." 1 Timothy 4:16 At New Vision Church we approach beliefs by narrowing our focus to Four Essential Truths. While we have many other preferences and practices, these are the four that our ministry hinges on. In these essential beliefs, we have unity as a church. In other non-essential beliefs, we embrace diversity. While in all of our beliefs, we show charity.
The Four Essentials:
1. The Bible is the Word of God.
The Bible is both our guidebook for practical living and is our spiritual communication from God that provides us strength. The Bible is the inerrant, complete, inspired and unchanging word of God. At New Vision Church we make the Bible a part of our daily lives.
2. Jesus is the Son of God.
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
Jesus is the reason for everything we do. We believe that Jesus was born of a virgin as the Son of God. We believe that Jesus was crucified for the forgiveness of the sins of humanity and that He rose from the dead three days later. Jesus was both fully man and fully God. While Jesus was a prophet, a teacher and a good man, He is also the supernatural Son of God. We belief that Jesus is the only way to eternal life.
3. You must be born again.
"John 3:5-7 5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’
In a culture that sees various methods of avenues to be connected to God, New Vision Church believes that Jesus is the only way to access forgiveness and eternal life in God. We believe that every person is born into sin; believing in and accepting the grace of Jesus is the only way to gain forgiveness from sin. Every person can be forgiven and born again.
4. Active in the gifts of the Spirit
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8
While forgiveness comes from our relationship with Jesus, we believe that our relationship with the Holy Spirit provides us the power to live our lives focused on Jesus. New Vision Church believes in the Holy Spirit as the third member of the Trinity. The Holy Spirit is our best friend, our guide, our comforter and our strength. We believe that our lives can be filled with the Holy Spirit. Lives lived this way are evidenced by fruit of the Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit found in Holy Scripture.
GIVING IN TITHES
We believe that giving is a recognition that everything we have comes from God. The practice checks our greed, promotes personal discipline, testifies to our faith, and promotes God’s work in the world. Not having cash or check on hand doesn’t have to hold you back.
New Vision practices water baptism after a person has made a personal decision to follow Christ.
Water baptism is an outward sign of an inward change.
Baptism is a command of God. Immersion is the example of Christ, Going down in the water is the symbol of death and coming out of the water is the symbol of resurrection. Romans 6:4 “We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”
Baptism by water immersion is a great way to publicly profess your own personal faith in Jesus Christ. To be water baptized please inquire to tone of the pastoral staff members.
Dedication is a way to commit one's child to God. Parents express their understanding that their children belong to the Lord and that they have been entrusted to raise them well. They express their intent to raise their child up in the Lord, with the hope that he or she will come to faith in Jesus. Baby dedication is also a way for the congregation to join in prayer for the parents and child as well as commit to being a supportive community of faith.
NVUM does not baptize babies or children because we believe that it is a declaration of Faith in Jesus Christ. We believe that children are only baptized after they reach the age of accountability and can make that declaration of faith on their own.
Children who reach the age of accountability varies. A child who is able to make a declaration of faith with the understanding of what decision they are making.
